Suspect arrested as police officers engage armed robbers in a gun battle in Ogun

One suspect has been arrested and others currently on the run after men of the Ogun state police command engaged them in a gunbattle in the Ipamesan area of Sango Ota on Saturday, May 15.

A statement released by the spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, states that the Sango Ota divisional headquarters received a distress call that the dare devil robbers were operating at Ipamesan area, and that they had already boggled a warehouse in the area.

Abimbola said upon the distress call, the DPO, CSP Godwin Idehai, quickly mobilized his patrol team, and moved to the scene. On sighting the policemen, the robbers, who had snatched two vehicles from different locations, took to flight but were hotly chased by the policemen. On getting to Joju area, and realizing the determination of the patrol team to subdue them,  they decided to engage the policemen in the gun battle.

”Due to the superior firepower of the policemen, they abandoned the two robbed vehicles, a Lexus RS 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW snatched from one Dosumu Kazeem, and a Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW snatched from one Ibrahim Lateef, and took to their heels. The team pursued them, and one of the robbers, later identified as Henry Obe was arrested in the process.


It was later discovered, that the hoodlums had shot a guard attached to a warehouse own by one Yinka Oduwale, before breaking into the said warehouse and looting it. The guard was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead” he said

The police spokesperson added that items recovered from the suspects include one long gun, 41 laptops, 2DVD players, 2 phones, 3 tablets gadgets, one Lexus RS 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW, and Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW.


Abimbola added that the state commissioner of police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation. He also directed the crack detectives, to go after the remaining members of the gang, with the view to bring them to justice within the shortest possible period.
