The NFF has released a squad of 27 players for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro and the NFF have invited 27 players for the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifying games against Sierra Leone and São Tomé and Principé.

Two of the eight NPFL players taken to the United States were able to make the list with others not considered for the games.

The squad comprised three goalkeepers including newly-invited Israeli-based goalkeeper, Adebayo Adeleye, Francis Uzoho and Akwa United’s Adewale Adeyinka.

In the defense, William Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, Leon Balogun, Calvin Bassey, Zaidu Sanusi, Ola Aina, Kenneth Omeruo, Chidozie Awaziem, Abdullahi Shehu, and Katsina United’s Sani Faisal made the list.

The midfield continued to be the thin department on the pitch with Alex Iwobi, Joe Aribo, Innocent Bonke, Frank Onyeka and Oghenekaro Etebo making the squad.

Onyeka has not played since the March qualifiers against Ghana while Etebo has barely had minutes since his return from injury.

Innocent Bonke picked an injury during the team’s tour in the United States.

The forward players invited are; Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Emmanuel Dennis, Cyriel Dessers, Terem Moffi and Sadiq Umar.

The Super Eagles will face Sierra Leone on the June 9th before travelling to São Tomé and Principé on the 13th of June.
