Former Nigerian midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju has advised Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to carefully select his choice of striker that will lead the team’s attack against Benin and Lesotho in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Adepoju stated this on the backdrop of calls by some ex-international urging the technical crew to allow Kelechi Iheanacho to spearhead the Super Eagles attack due to his hattrick performance for Leicester City against Sheffield United in Sunday’s Premier League game.
With Osimhen in and out for a while due to injuries and COVID-19, many believe Iheanacho’s form is enough reason for him to lead the Eagles’ attack.
Reacting to the development, the ‘Headmaster’ as he was fondly regarded during his playing days, said that Rohr should be left alone to decide the striker that will spearhead his attack.
“Iheanacho has played for Eagles and has scored goals, so he is capable of doing anything. Osimhen also has done same thing, so he is capable. They are all doing well which is very good, so it is left to the coach,” Adepoju told Punch.
