Fire razes Katsina Central Market

Properties and goods worth millions have been destroyed following a fire outbreak at Katsina Central Market on Monday morning, March 22. 

The inferno started around 8:30am at a shop and quickly spread to other parts of the market.

Alhaji Abbas Labaran Alibaba, chairman of the traders’ Association of the market who disclosed that the amount of properties destroyed by the fire cannot yet be ascertained, disclosed that it began at a shop close to the Market mosque. 

Alibaba ruled out electric problem as the possible cause of the fire, saying there was no electric power at the time of the incident.

A combined team of Federal and state fire fighters, state emergency management agency, police and other security agencies worked together to handle the situation.
