One police officer dies after gunmen attacked police station in Imo

One police officer has been confirmed dead after hoodlums attacked the Divisional Police Head quarters,  Isiala Mbano, in Imo state on Saturday, March 20 at about 6.30pm.

The hoodlums stormed the station in their numbers and started shooting sporadically into the air. Operatives of the Division however successfully repelled them. After the encounter, it was discovered that the hoodlums destroyed some doors and windows.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Ikeowku Orlando, said no arm(s) was taken away but that an Inspector who was on duty at the time of the attack, gave up the ghost while receiving treatment as a result of injuries sustained during the melee.

During an on-the-spot assessment of the station, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Nasiru Mohammed, decried the level of damage in the Division which he termed as barbaric.  He encouraged officers not to be deterred by this attack, but be charged to brace up the challenge and ensure policing activities continue in the area.

The police boss warned those responsible for all the attacks to desist from it, or be prepared to face the law.
