Euro 2020: England Set To Test Might Against Croatia

England will commence their quest for European glory as the Three Lions face a difficult test against Croatia at Wembley on Sunday.

Often tagged as perennial underachievers in the game, the Three Lions will be determined to make a positive start to their campaign under Gareth Southgate in a bid to rewrite the history book.

However, there is always a sense that the Three Lions can do so much more, and they can be quite one-dimensional in their attacking plays. Nevertheless, England come into UEFA Euro 2020 on the back of a solid run of form, winning each of their last six games, conceding just once.

On the other hand, Croatia are set to enter a transition period soon, with the generation of players who took them to the FIFA World Cup 2018 final reaching the end of the line. Next year’s World Cup could be the final tournament for the group, but the effects of age have already started to show in their results, with the Vatreni winning just two of their last nine fixtures.

Key Stats

Sunday’s encounter will be the 11th meeting between England and Croatia. The Three Lions have a better head-to-head record with five wins to their name (D2 L3).

England have been on a fine run of form lately, winning each of their last six games, keeping a clean sheet in five of those match-ups.

Croatia are on the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to recent form, with Zlatko Dalic & co. winning just two of their last nine matches (D2 L5).

Possible Lineup

England: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Shaw; Trippier, Rice, Phillips, Chilwell; Mount, Grealish; Kane

Croatia: Livakovic; Vrsaljko, Vida, Caleta-Car, Barisic; Brozovic, Kovacic; Rebic, Modric, Perisic; Petkovic
