Gunshots were fired at the Imo state House of Assembly on Thursday, July 8, after six lawmakers of the house were suspended.
The Speaker, Paul Emeziem, who announced the suspension of the lawmakers at the floor of the House, said the decision was based on the lawmakers “conducting themselves in an unparliamentary manner.”
Following the suspension, gunshots were heard in the House and this resulted in lawmakers and workers running for safety.
The gunshots were said to have been fired by the security operatives as some of the suspended lawmakers stormed the chambers to protest against their suspension.
Among the suspended lawmakers, four are members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the others are two members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
