Four U.S. Marines among those killed in Kabul airport explosion

Four U.S. Marines were killed in an explosion at Kabul’s airport and three wounded, the Wall Street Journal and other outlets reported Thursday, August 26, citing U.S. officials.

Two explosions ripped through crowds of Afghans trying to enter the airport on Thursday. Reports say US President Joe Biden is getting regular updates on the situation after meeting with his national security team.

The explosion comes hours after the US, UK and Australia warned on Wednesday night and Thursday morning that it has received Intel of an imminent terror attack, telling it’s citizens to avoid coming to the Kabul airport till the terror threat goes down.

The US military is in a race against time to withdraw US citizens, allied partners and interpreters ahead of an August 31 deadline, but with the death of US personnel Joe Biden’s military strategy might change.

The death of US soldiers will also increase the criticism of Biden who has faced heavy backlash since his sudden withdrawal of troops caused the Taliban to reclaim control of Afghanistan.
