Ahead of Tuesday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde, former Nigerian forward, Victor Ikpeba says he’s optimistic the Super Eagles will beat the Black Sharks without the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and others.
Recall that Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Joe Aribo, Oghenekaro Etebo, and Wilfred Ndidi will miss the game because Cape Verde is among countries in Britain’s COVID-19 red zone and players for clubs in the United Kingdom are barred from travelling to such countries.
However, in an interview on Monday Night Football Show on Supersports, Ikpeba commended the team’s 2-0 victory over the Lone Star of Liberia at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
The ‘Prince of Monaco’ as he was regarded during his playing days, stated that he’s positive the Super Eagles will defeat Cape Verde.
“Against Cape Verde, I expect it to be tough With our key players not been involved, that’s my worry. But with what we have, we can still be a threat. That’s why the team must have a complete depth. I am so positive about this team, I am not negative at all.”
