Actor Junior Pope Odonwodo has revealed that he and his colleagues were attacked by armed robbers in Delta State.
The actor said he was going home from work last night, Jan. 29, when he and his colleagues were robbed at gunpoint around Ubulu Okiti in Delta State.
He was in his car with actress Georgina Ibeh and another colleague when he saw a roadblock made with tree stumps.
He said he started to slow down but soon noticed a group of men coming out of the bushes so he reversed, stepped on the accelerator, and rammed into another colleague’s car that was coming behind him.
It was his colleague Emma Umeh that was driving behind him.
Junior Pope said that by this time, the robbers had opened his door and pointed guns at him and other occupants.
They were then asked to exit their cars and lie flat in the middle of the road.
Junior said the robber stole everything they had, including phones, their footwears, production shoes in his car, his bag containing his passport, PVC, ID card, and many other personal belongings.
As they were lying in the middle of the road during the robbery attack, Junior Pope said cars sped past and the people recognised him but no one could stop. He said the robbers also recognised him.
He recalled: “Cars were passing o, people were passing, I’m not joking, while we were on the ground, and they were like, ‘na Junior Pope’.”
Junior Pope said they had to leave Georgina Ibeh behind and drove off before meeting some customs officers who they reported to.
The customs officers then told them that another group of victims had come to report that they were robbed and stabbed.
Fortunately for Georgina, the location bus coming from behind saw her and rescued her around 11pm then met up with Junior Pope and Emma at the customs checkpoint.
Junior Pope said Georgina later told them that the robbers tried to rape her but she told them she was on her period so they slapped her and told her to leave. It was at this point that the location bus saw her walking along the express road and picked her up.
Junior Pope thanked God for saving his life and he called on the Delta State Government to do something about the regular robbery attacks that occur unchecked in the same area.
