Labour Party, PDP, ADC holds press conference, asks for cancellation of election and for INEC chairman to step aside

Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party, and African Democratic Congress have again called for the cancellation of the 2023 presidential election following alleged claims of manipulations and irregularities.

The opposition parties during a joint press conference accused INEC of compromising the integrity of the election before collation. They also demanded that INEC chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu, steps aside for someone else to conduct another election.

ADC BoT chairman who spoke at the joint press conference stated that there won’t be agitation if the election was free and fair.

During the press conference, PDP Chieftain, Dino Melaye played a 2022 audio of INEC chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu, telling Nigerians to treat the claim of having plans of election results not being uploaded from polling units in real-time as fake news.

A member of persons with disability also recounted how he advised INEC chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu, to add blockchain technology to their portal for real-time upload of results but he allegedly discarded the advice. He also disclosed that there are groups that could handle the logistics of electoral materials but INEC chose ‘’miscreants. ‘’He further revealed that persons with disability were disenfranchised during the election as INEC did not make provisions for them.

PDP Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, alleged that what happened on Saturday, February 25 was vote allocation as two Northern states, Bauchi and Gombe had the same results. In both states, he said APC scored 146,977 votes. He added that PDP was allegedly allocated 319,123 votes, while Labour Party was allegedly given 26,160 in both states.

Ayu also said that President Muhammadu Buhari needs to do the needful as they may lose control of their supporters if nothing is done.

Dino Melaye also pointed out that votes were allegedly allocated by APC to President Muhammadu Buhari’s polling unit. He said the 2019 and 2023 elections in Buhari’s polling unit are the same. Dino said APC scored 523 votes, while PDP 3 votes in both election years.
