Police promote officer assaulted by Seun Kuti

The Police Service Commission has promoted Mohammed Aminu, the police officer who was assaulted by Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in May this year during a confrontation on the third mainland bridge.

In a viral video, the singer pushed and even slapped the officer who kept his cool without any retaliating despite provocation from the entertainment star. Watch the video here.

Kuti was later detained and arraigned for assault. He however pleaded not guilty and was released on bail.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 20, the Police Service Commission (PSC) said the officer had been promoted to ASP. The PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, who released the statement said Aminu, in spite of the assault, displayed a high level of professionalism.

“Inspector Mohammed Aminu, who trended on social media where he was seen being assaulted in uniform by one Seun Kuti, was also promoted to ASP I,” Ani said.
