Court grants Emefiele permission to travel out of FCT

Embattled immediate past Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele has been granted permission to travel out of the FCT by Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.

Emefiele, through his lawyer, Mathew Bukka, SAN, had requested a variation of the terms as his initial bail term stated that he must remain in FCT.

Counsel of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, who did not object to the request, told the court to ensure that Emefiele wrote an undertaking that he would remain in the country if his plea was granted.

Following the disclosure, the court granted Emefiele permission to travel out of the FCT. He must however remain in the country.

Emefiele is currently facing charges ranging from criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
