SGF, NSA and ministers in emergency meeting over planned protest

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume is currently holding a closed-door meeting with over 40 ministers from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet to discuss the proposed ‘EndBadGovernance’ nationwide protest.

According to The Nation, the meeting is addressing concerns about planned protests set to occur between August 1 and 10, organized by various groups in response to the rising cost of living and economic challenges in the country. This has led to heightened alertness among police and security agencies.

President Tinubu had previously urged protesters to reconsider the planned demonstration next month.

Ministers in attendance include Nyesom Wike (FCT), Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs), Zephaniah Jisalo (Special Duties), Tahir Mamman (Education), and Abubakar Bagudu (Budget and Planning), among others. Also present are Wale Edun (Finance), Mohammed Idris (Information), Bello Matawalle (Defence), David Umahi (Works), and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
