Nigerian cyclist, Ese Ukpeseraye, was forced to borrow a bicycle from the German cycling team to be able to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games.
In a remarkable display of sportsmanship, Ukpeseraye, who was given short notice about her participation in the Keirin and Sprint repechage, took to Twitter to thank German opponent, Bund Deutscher Radfahrer, who stepped in to assist the Nigerian cyclist with a bicycle to race on the tracks.
She competed in the Keirin and Sprint cycling event on Wednesday, but couldn’t advance to the next stage after finishing sixth.
Expressing her appreciation to the German counterpart on her X handle (formerly Twitter), She wrote: “Due to the short notice of me competing at the Keirin & Sprint, #teamNigeria I had no bicycle to race with on the tracks.
“In d spirit of sportsmanship the German team @bunddeutscherradfahr came to my rescue by offering me a bicycle. Thank you.”
