Peter Obi takes a swipe at Tinubu-led administration over purchase of new presidential jet

Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate, has sharply criticized the Tinubu-led administration for its recent purchase of a new presidential jet.

Speaking to Arise TV on the sidelines of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Obi expressed his dismay, stating that Nigeria’s leaders are representing the country “shamefully” on the world stage.

Obi argued that acquiring a new private jet is ill-timed and inappropriate, particularly as Nigeria grapples with severe economic challenges, including being labeled the poverty capital of the world. He questioned the rationale behind the purchase, emphasizing that the funds could have been better spent on essential sectors such as education and health, which he described as key growth trajectories for the nation.

Furthermore, Obi called for transparency regarding the cost of the new jet and suggested a comparison between the ages of the newly acquired aircraft and the one it is replacing. He stressed that every financial resource available to Nigeria should be carefully allocated to sectors that directly contribute to the country’s development and well-being.
