Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON winner Brown Ideye joins Enyimba

Super Eagles AFCON 2013 winner Brown Ideye has finalized a deal to join Nigerian Premier Football League giants, Enyimba, until the end of the current season for an undisclosed fee.

Enyimba’s Sporting Director and former Super Eagles forward Ifeanyi Ekwueme confirmed the deal, stating, “We have been discussing with him for several weeks and he agreed to play for us. We are very happy to have a legend in our club.” He further added, “Ideye will be with us until the end of this season and we believe he will strengthen our team’s attack as we compete in the league and the continent.”

Ideye, who has been without a club since leaving Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022, is set to return to Nigeria’s top-flight, following in the footsteps of former Super Eagles teammates Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu, who currently play for Kano Pillars in the Nigerian elite division. This move marks Ideye’s return to the domestic scene 17 years after he left Ocean Boys in 2007, where he clinched a league and cup double in 2006.

The 36-year-old was on the brink of joining former league champions Rivers United in October, but the move fell through. Enyimba now looks to Ideye as a key addition for their domestic and continental challenges, with two crucial matches coming up—against Sunshine Stars in a rescheduled NPFL game and a CAF Confederation Cup match against Black Bulls in Maputo, Mozambique.
