I’ll continue to act as Senator as my suspension is illegal – Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has described her suspension from the Senate as unjust, vowing to continue serving her constituents despite the decision.

The Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for “gross misconduct” following a heated argument with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements on February 20. The controversy escalated when Akpoti-Uduaghan later accused Akpabio of sexual harassment—an allegation he denied.

Her petition on the matter was dismissed by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions on procedural grounds.

In a social media post, Akpoti-Uduaghan condemned her suspension, calling it an attack on justice and fairness.

“Against the culture of silence, intimidation and victim-shaming; my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness and equity,” she stated.

She reaffirmed her commitment to her role, asserting that the suspension does not affect her legitimacy as an elected official.

“The illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027… and beyond,” she added.

Despite her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan remains defiant, maintaining that she will not be silenced.
