NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi announces peaceful protests

National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi has announced that he will hold peaceful protests to show displeasure with the January 2021 election results that granted President Kaguta Museveni a sixth term in office.

Kyagulanyi made this announcement on social media on Tuesday afternoon.

“As always, the regime is desperately trying to claim that we are planning violent protests. NO. We are calling upon all of you citizens of goodwill to demonstrate peacefully and unarmed, a right guaranteed by Article 29 of the Constitution.” Reads part of Bobi Wine’s statement.

The call for peaceful protests follows the withdrawal of the Presidential petition that Kyagulanyi had earlier taken to the Supreme Court citing lack of objectivity on the side of the panel of justices.

He adds that the demonstrations are aimed at achieving four things including reclaiming their win in the recently concluded Presidential elections.

“We are demanding that Gen. Museveni and his regime of shame immediately stop abducting the people of Uganda, which they continue to do on a daily basis. “ adds the musician turned politician.
Kyagulanyi and his party also want the security agencies to release all individuals that are believed to have been abducted using the drone cars. He further demands  that Government stops the trial of civilians in the general court-martial.

A number of Ugandans are believed to have been abducted by security officers in the past few months. There whereabouts are still unknown
