Some Nigerian football fans have taken to social media to mock English footballers of Nigerian descent – Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Eberechi Eze after they were excluded from England’s final squad for the 2022 World Cup.
England coach, Gareth Southgate on Thursday evening, November 10, announced his final squad for the World Cup. .
Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane, Mason Mount, Phil Foden, Luke Shaw and other premier league big stars will be flying the flag of England in Qatar.
Abraham, Tomori and Eze were not considered, as England coach felt that the players have not done enough to warrant them making the list.
Tomori is currently playing for AC Milan in the Serie A and he has been one of the best defenders this season, while Abraham is on the books of Roma. Eze has shone for Crystal palace this season.
Former Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, tried to convince these players to play for Nigeria but was shunned.
After the England world cup list was released Thursday November 10, some Super Eagles fans opined that Nigeria would have taken Abraham, Eze and Tomori to the World Cup if they had chosen to play for the Super Eagles. The irony however, is that even Nigeria didn’t qualify for the world 2022 Cup 🙂
