Kwara police rescue abducted Chinese national

Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have successfully rescued a Chinese national, Mr PengChao Zhang, who was kidnapped ten days ago in Ilorin.

Spokesperson of the command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, said that the rescue was affected in the early hours of Monday, March 19 through the command’s teams and vigilantes.

The victim, also known as Williams Kaka amongst his business associates) was abducted at a guest house located at Eyenkorin, the outskirts of Ilorin, on March 10, 2024.

The PPRO said Zhang had been reunited with his family unharmed, adding that the rescue underscored the commitment of the state Police Command to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors within the state.

“Kwara State Police Command is pleased to announce a significant breakthrough in the recent kidnapping incident that occurred in Eiyenkorin, Ilorin, Kwara State. On the 10th of March, 2024, six armed men forcefully abducted Mr PengChao Zhang (also known as Williams Kaka amongst his business associates), a Chinese national who Lodged at Cherish Guest House Eiyenkorin, Ilorin, sparking concerns and fear within the community,” the statement read.

“Through diligent and coordinated efforts, the Command’s Tactical Teams and vigilantes executed a series of strategic searches and investigations leading to the safe rescue of the victim in the early hours of 19th March 2024.

“The command is pleased to confirm that the victim has since been reunited with his family unharmed. This achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors within the state.

“The Kwara State Police Command, under the undaunted and excellent leadership of the Commissioner of Police CP Victor OLAIYA (psc+), remains steadfast in pursuing justice and holding accountable those responsible for such criminal acts. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.”
