DSS releases Joe Ajaero’s seized passport

The Department of State Services (DSS) has returned the passport of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero, following his recent arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The passport was released on Tuesday, September 10, through Abubakar Marshall, a lawyer from the Femi Falana chambers disclosed.

Benson Upah, the NLC spokesperson, confirmed the return of Ajaero’s passport. Ajaero had been arrested by DSS operatives on Monday as he prepared to board a flight to the United Kingdom for a conference on workers’ rights and social justice.

According to Upah, Ajaero was supposed to travel to the UK at the invitation of Britain’s Trade Union Congress (TUC) to represent Nigerian workers at a key international labour conference. His detention disrupted these plans, with the NLC describing the incident as a setback for efforts to advocate for workers’ rights on the global stage.
