We will never treat a guest nation like this on purpose, William Troost-Ekong says as he gives update on “hostage” situation in Libya

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has gone on X to provide an update after he and other Super Eagles players and their officials were left stranded at an airport in Libya.

Troost Ekong stated that following an outcry on social media, Libyan authorities have finally allowed their plane to be fueled and they will be returning to Nigeria soon.

He also denied the reports that what they are experiencing in Libya is payback for what the Libyan national team suffered even when they came to Nigeria. He said they would never put a guest nation through such on purpose.

He wrote: “Power of social media. Apparently our plane is being fueled as we speak and we should be leaving to Nigeria shortly. Thanks for everyone’s support!

“I REITERATE: We would NEVER treat a guest nation for a game in this way. Mistakes happen, delays happen. But never on purpose!”

Earlier, he lamented the uncomfortable situation surrounding the delay of the Super Eagles at the Al Abraq International Airport in Libya.

He said that the Libyan authorities are yet to release the aviation fuel to take off from the airport.

He also added that a bus driver who had arrived at the airport with a bus, alongside some other staff, had been mocking them.

The Nigerian senior men’s football team arrived at the airport on Sunday, October 13, after their chartered aircraft heading to the Benghazi Airport was diverted mid-flight to the Al Abraq Airport.
