Leganes Stop Omeruo From Super Eagles Duty

Spanish club Leganes have stopped Kenneth Omeruo from attending Nigeria’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Benin Republic and Lesotho.

Omeruo broke the news to Completesports.com in an exclusive chat from his base in Spain on Saturday morning.

“My club refused to let me go. I won’t be coming to the game because of Covid,” the versatile defender declared.

It would be recalled the duo of Moses Simon and Sadiq Umar were also stopped by their respective clubs from honouring invitations for the qualifiers as a result of travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Paul Onuachu and Anayo Iwuala have been named as replacements for the two players by head coach Gernot Rohr.

There are growing fears that more players will also be forced out of the qualifiers.

The Super Eagles will confront Benin Republic on March 27 at the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto-Novo, before hosting Lesotho three days later at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
