Marconi Given 10-Match Ban For Using Racist Phrase Against Joel Obi

Pisa forward Michele Marconi has received a 10-match ban for using racist phrase against Chievo Verona midfielder Joel Obi.

The incident occurred during their 2-2 draw on December 22, 2020.

Marconi was originally cleared after the first hearing two months ago.

However, new evidence came to light before the appeal and their response was to find him guilty.

Marconi has been given a 10-match ban, but it will take a few days before the judges explain what changed in their judgment.

Chievo had released a statement at the time claiming Marconi said “the revolt of the slaves” to Obi following a challenge.

“When I heard that phrase, my mind just went for a few minutes, asking myself if I’d really heard it,” Obi (pictured) told online magazine Athleta.

“I kept playing, but my focus was elsewhere. It’s incredible that someone could use words like that today, especially with all the efforts people are making to weaken the ‘disease’ of racism.”
