Tokyo Olympics: Nigerian Tennis legend Aruna Quadri loses, sending all Nigeria’s table tennis representatives out of tournament

Team Nigeria captain and Nigerian Table Tennis legend, Aruna Quadri has been knocked out from table tennis men’s singles events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Quadri lost 4-2 (15-13, 9-11, 6-11, 11-7, 7-11, 6-11) to  Brazil’s Gustavo Tsuboi on Monday morning, July 27.

Quadri loss means that all Team Nigeria’s representatives in table tennis have been knocked out from the Olympics as Funke Oshonaike, Offiong Edem, and Olajide Omotayo all crashed out in the last three days.


Oshonaike, 45, who has represented Nigeria at seven Olympic Games lost the first three sets to her opponent, losing  1-4 to Juan Liu of the U.S in the women’s table tennis singles.
