National grid collapses for the second time in a month

The national power grid has collapsed for the second time in less than a month, leading to a blackout in some parts of the country. 

Some electricity distribution companies in the country confirmed the collapse which occurred around 1pm on Monday August 23. 

Ikeja Electric in a message to its customers, said; 

“Dear esteemed customer, the current power outage is due to a nationwide system collapse that occurred at about 13:06hrs.

“Power supply will be restored gradually to various parts of the network as soon as the Grid is stabilized.”

Kaduna Electric also issued an apology, promising that the issue will be resolved soon. The statement read; 

“We sincerely apologise for the power outage in our franchise states which is due to a system collapse from the national grid. Supply shall be restored as soon as the grid is back up. We regret any inconvenience this may cause all our customers.”

Eko Electricity Distribution Company wrote; 

“Dear valued customer, we regret to inform you of a system collapse on the national grid that’s causing outages across our network. We are working with our TCN partners to restore supply as soon as possible.”

Jos DisCo also apologized over the issue. 

Some DisCos later resumed electricity supply around 7pm following restoration of power to the grid.
