Residents flee as ISWAP reportedly attack troops in Borno

A military formation in the southern part of Borno state is allegedly currently attacked by suspected fighters of Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).

A security source told Daily Trust that the insurgents stormed the remote town of Damboa at about 10:30am, with dozens of gun trucks. This reportedly led to a pandemonium as residents and displaced persons ran for their lives.

The source further disclosed that air power was deployed to assist the ground troops and local volunteers in Damboa which is 100 kilometres away from Maiduguri.

He said;

“I can confirm to you that these boys(ISWAP) are currently attacking state forces in Damboa town. Airpower has been activated to support the troops. Everything is under control.”
