If Manchester City don’t win the Champions League, I’ll be branded a failure – Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola says he understands the pressure on him to succeed in Europe with Manchester City, and has stated that he knows an inability to do so will be seen as a failure on his part.

City are yet to reach a Champions League final despite Pep Guardiola’s arrival, even though City has dominated the premier league.

With the huge resources spent on the club with player recruitment, stadium development and academy upgrades, in the last decade,  pressure is now on Guardiola to deliver the ultimate crown in European football competition.

Looking to reach the Champions League semi-finals, City now face Borussia Dortmund in their quarter-final second leg on Wednesday, carrying a 2-1 lead from the first leg at home.

“This is a business, and business is business. Business is winning,” said Guardiola at his press conference on Tuesday April 13.

“If we don’t win, I will be a failure. If we win, it will be: `Oh, how good is Pep.”’

Guardiola did also add that it is the players who deserve credit in successful seasons, not him.

“We won the Champions League, I didn’t play,” Guardiola said in reference to his time at Barcelona.

“I didn’t win the Champions League with Barcelona – they won it. I was just there to have one idea all together.

“If I retire in five or 10 years, what has happened in my career was completely unexpected when I started. I’m more than grateful for the clubs I was at and the players that I’ve had.”
