Buhari meets Northern Governors .As Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi says security have been beefed up to stop influx of Chadian refugees into Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly in a meeting with some Northern Governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Governors were led by chairman of Northern Governors Forum, Simon Lalong and it was also learnt that Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari is also present.

Others in the delegation are Governors Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi); Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna); Mai Mala Buni(Yobe); Abubakar Bello(Niger) and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa).

Meanwhile, the Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi has disclosed that the security at Nigeria’s borders with Chad has been strengthened to prevent influx of Chadian refugees following the killing of the country’s President.

Magashi said on Thursday April 22, that there will be a lot of trouble for all neighbouring countries if there is no security in Chad.

He said;

“We are beefing up security at our borders, following the developments in Chad.

“When we heard of the death of the Chadian president, the government took action immediately. We beefed up security on our borders with Chad, not to allow the influx of Chadian refugees into Nigeria.

“If there’s no security in Chad, there will be a lot of trouble for all neighbouring countries. But thankfully, we have a lot of ongoing military cooperation, through the MNJTF, which we expect to continue. We remain mindful of our borders and developments in Chad.

“The task of ensuring security is not for the security and law enforcement agencies alone. It must be seen as a collective effort that requires credible intelligence that can best be provided by local communities.”
