Michael Schumacher’s former boss Jean Todt gives update on his condition eight years after skiing accident that left him brain damaged

Former Ferrari boss, Jean Todt has spoken out on the condition of FormulaOne racing legend, Michael Schumacher, 8 years after he suffered a severe brain injury in a skiing accident.

Schumacher’s accident in 2013 placed the German in a medically induced coma for six months after he underwent two brain surgeries.

The 52-year-old is still in rehabilitation and Todt has now revealed that he is always by  Schumacher’s side.

Todt said to Corriere della Serra: ‘The beauty of what have experienced is part of us and it goes on.’

‘I don’t leave him alone. Him, [his wife] Corinna, the family – we’ve had so many experiences together. The beauty of what we have experienced is part of us and it goes on.’

In September 2020, Todt recalled a recent visit to Schumacher. He told PA: ‘I saw Michael last week. He is fighting.

‘My God, we know he had a terrible and unfortunate skiing accident which has caused him a lot of problems. But he has an amazing wife next to him, he has his kids, his nurses, and we can only wish him the best and to wish the family the best, too.

‘All I can do is to be close to them until I am able to do something, and then I will do it.’

‘I think that’s the maximum for him. Is there any chance of seeing him like he was before his accident? I really don’t think so.’

F1 legend Schumacher raced from 1991 to 2006 and then from 2010 to 2012, won seven world drivers’ championships titles, a record he shares with Lewis Hamilton.

In addition Schumacher has the F1 record for the most fastest laps (77) and the most races won in a single season (13, shared with Sebastian Vettel).

Since his injury, his family has kept his medical condition private.
