Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu has won the 2020/21 Ebony Shoe Award in Belgium

The KRC Genk player claimed the award meant for the best African player in the European country on Monday June 7.

Onuachu beats his Genk teammate Théo Bongonda who scored 18 goals and bagged six assists in 39 games in all competitions; RSC Anderlecht’s duo of Albert Sambi Lokonga (Congo) and Lukas Nmecha (Nigeria) and Club Brugge’s Angola defender.

The 25-year-old forward scored 33 goals to break the twenty-year-old record of Wesley Sonck in 38 Belgian Jupiler league games in this campaign.

He also ended the season as the Belgian Jupiler League top goal scorer and best player of the season after helping Genk finished second on the league table.

The striker is now the fifth Nigerian to win the award after Daniel Amiokachi (1992,1994), Victor Ikpeba (1993), Godwin Okapara (1995) and Celestine Babayaro (1996).

The Ebony Shoe award is a football award in Belgium given annually to the best African or African origin player in the Belgian Pro League.
