Tokyo 2020: Nigeria to finally get a medal as Blessing Oborodudu reaches wrestling final

Nigeria is now guaranteed its first medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics after Blessing Oborodudu won her women’s freestyle 68kg wrestling semi-final match to qualify for the final.

Oborududu beat Mongolia’s Battsetseg Soronzonbold to qualify for the final of the women’s 68kg by 7-2, which means she is guaranteed GOLD or Silver. 

It will be Nigeria’s first-ever medal in wrestling at Olympic games.

Oborodudu, 32, went into an early 4-0 lead, then added more three points, ending the contest by 7-2 to emerge as the winner of the bout by points. 

Next up for Oborududu is USA’s Marianna Stock Mensah, who is also in very good form. Mensah is currently ranked at number 1 coming to Tokyo, and Oborududu ranked number 2.
