President Buhari promises to consider fuel supply assistance to Burundi amid scarcity in Nigeria

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has said the country will support Republic of Burundi with its fuel shortage issues to showcase African solidarity and brotherliness.

According to Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President, Buhari gave the assurance Tuesday, January 3 at State House, Abuja, while receiving the Special Envoy of Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye, who came with a message. Adesina said Buhari assured Niyonzima that Nigeria will support the Republic of Burundi in diverse ways as necessary, in the spirit of African solidarity and brotherliness.

On request for fuel assistance by the Burundi leader, President Buhari said he knows what it feels like for a country to suffer from energy shortage.

Burundi’s request is coming as Nigeria has been battling fuel scarcity since December 2022.

Hon Audace Niyonzima, Minister of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning of Burundi, said his President sent goodwill for the New Year to Nigerians.

“We pray that the polls would be peaceful and successful, so that Nigeria would maintain her reputation as a bastion of peace and stability,” the Special Envoy said.
