AFCON: Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali cleared to feature in quarterfinal clash for Nigeria against Angola, As Jose Peseiro warns players against entertaining female visitors

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has been cleared to feature in the quarterfinal clash for Nigeria against Angola.

Nwabali was a major doubt for the must-win clash after sustaining a mild ligament injury in the Super Eagles Round of 16 victory against Cameroon.

The Chippa United shot-stopper has now recovered fully from the injury.

The 27-year-old trained fully with his teammates at the Police College, Cocody, Abidjan on Wednesday night, January 31,

Nwabali has conceded just one goal in four appearances for the Super Eagles at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles squad will take on the Black Antelopes of Angola in a quarter-final tie on Friday, February 2, at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has warned the squad against entertaining female visitors in their camp as they prepare for a must-win fixture quarterfinal against Angola at the African Cup Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.

To ensure the players are not distracted from achieving their goal, Peseiro imposed some strict measures including punctuality for team meetings, a ban on answering phone calls during meetings, adherence to a team curfew with a bedtime of 11 pm, and a prohibition on entertaining female visitors.

To enforce these measures, the players are isolated on the fourth floor of the Pullman Hotel in Abidjan, with the team’s chief security officer maintaining comprehensive surveillance.

“Peseiro has gone tough on the players. He warned that he will not hestitate to expel any player who flouts camp rules as they stay on course to win the AFCON,” a source told ScoreNigeria

“The man is just a game away from reaching the target the NFF set for him to get a new contract and as such he is not smiling or joking.”

Nigeria will battle Angola on Friday, February 2, for a place in the 34th edition of the AFCON semifinal.
