AFCON 2023: ‘We want to play the Final’ — South Africa coach plans Nigeria upset

South Africa coach, Hugo Broos has expressed his team’s desire to play in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and upset tournament favorites, Nigeria.

The Bafana Bafana will confront the Super Eagles in the semi-final at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake on Wednesday night, February 7, and even though the Super Eagles will head into the game as favourites, Broos says his men can stun Jose Peseiro’s men.

“Reaching the semifinal is very special for South African football,” said Belgian coach Broos, who led Cameroon to win the 2017 AFCON.

“The hunger is big to play the final next Sunday.”

The Super Eagles defeated South Africa 2-0 in the semi-final of the 2000 edition of the AFCON

Nigeria won 2-1 the last time both countries met in the quarter-finals at the 2019 edition hosted by Egypt.
