Minister makes U-turn as she supports Niger mass wedding

Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has announced scholarships and gave various gift items to 100 orphaned girls in Niger State, ahead of their mass wedding today, May 24.

The minister who initially condemned the mass wedding of the young girls being sponsored by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, had claimed it violated the Child Rights Act.

Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye who was represented by her Special Assistant on Private Sector, Adaji Usman, at a press conference in Niger state, has now announced scholarships for the girls. She also gave them other items, such as wrappers and foodstuffs.

The items were given out to the 100 young girls at the Emir of Kontagora, Mohammed Muazu palace. The minister presented 10 Point of Sale machines, 100 wrappers and 350 bags of 10kg bags of rice.
